The Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Strand 1 "gSmart - Spatial ICT Infrastructures for Smart Places" project fosters collaboration in the field of higher education between European and Central Asian Universities through a mobility scheme addressing student and academic individual exchanges.Within the framework of this project Dr. Mark Bokhorst the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Institute for Environmental Studies, Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences, hosts grantee Nazirzoda Rahimjon, who conducts research at
 Institute for Environmental Studies, Department of Water and Climate Risk,  
under the supervision of Dr. Ralph Lasage and Dr. Mark Bokhorst.  
Special thanks to gSmart project for providing the opportunity to receive an Erasmus Mundus scholarship for improvement knowledge and skills in field of water resources management and to gain experience from European countries.                  

gSmart is directed at academic subjects across all faculties, with competences universally needed in public administration and industry. The gSmart project is building upon 10 years of academic collaboration with universities from the Central Asia region.

Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) 

The Institute for Environmental Studies (Instituut voor Milieuvraagstukken, IVM) is an interdisciplinary research institute at VU University Amsterdam that sits within the Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences. IVM facilitates three main departments: Environmental Economics, Environmental Policy Analysis and Water and Climate Risk. The two other departments are Chemistry and Biology and Environmental Geography. All departments are located on the VU campus.

German-Kazakh University, IWRM 

German-Kazakh University (GKU) is an international university in Almaty, whose quality of education is following German academic standards. German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and German partner universities support GKU by introducing and adapting innovative German courses of study in Kazakhstan. A Flying Faculty of about 20 lecturers and scholars from Germany are holding their lectures at German-Kazakh University every year.
